Doraemon: Story of Seasons (Switch): COMPLETED!

It’s been a while since I went cold turkey on Animal Crossing, so I thought I’d inject a bit of something similar when this came up on sale on the Switch eShop. Apparently it’s the first Doraemon game to be officially localised for the West, but it’s also a Story of Seasons (née Harvest Moon) crossover title. How that robot cat/farming game amalgamation works is like this: The plot is about Noby, Doraemon and chums being magically sent back in …

HoloCure – Save the Fans! (Steam Deck): COMPLETED!

In a sea of coattail riding Vampire Survivors clones, it takes something for one to stand out. HoloCure did this by being free. As in, completely free. No cost, no IAPs, no paid DLC. Free. That, and it came to my attention via a recommendation from Gaming on Linux, who I follow because apparently I’m a Linux gamer now what with the Steam Deck and all. Anyway, the game. it’s Vampire Survivors only with anime girls and cute baddies. Apparently, …

Summer in Mara (Switch): COMPLETED!

At first glance, Summer in Mara would appear to be a Wind Waker clone, but in fact it’s only really similar in terms of graphics and there’s a load of islands you travel between via a little boat. Actually, it’s much closer to something like Harvest Moon, with a bit of farming, some crafting, and a lot of fetch quests. There’s no peril, danger, time limits or any chance of death – just a nice little story about an orphan …

2017 Game of the Year, Part 2

Part 2 of the list of the best games I played for the first time in 2017. Again, they’re in no particular order, but they are better games than those in Part 1. Although those in Part 1 were great too. Erm. After this there’ll be one more post with the Actual Best Game of 2017, which isn’t any of these. SteamWorld Heist (3DS) I’ve no idea why it took me so long to jump into this. I like turn …

3DS Game Need List

It’s been a while since I posted up a list of games I need. Sorry, NEED. Some would say there aren’t many 3DS games out recently or in the next 12 months, which, if true, makes me wonder which bit of me made all these up: Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Marvel Pinball Heroes of Ruin Professor Layton & the Mask of Miracle New Super Mario Bros 2 Luigi’s Mansion 2 Harvest Moon Fire Emblem Rayman Origins Epic Mickey Paper Mario Layton …

MySims (Wii)

Time quota critical! Game bail! Game bail! Wii explosion imminent! Abandon console! I have hit the Giant Brick Wall of Too Many Games. In the last couple of weeks, I’ve had Super Paper Mario, Bioshock, Sonic Rush Adventure, Mario Party 8, Phoenix Wright 3 and now MySims all arrive. None are especially short. I don’t have time! Gah! Especially since I can see MySims becoming the huge time drain that it’s spiritual ancestors The Sims, Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon …

Too many games!

It’s that time of year again. Well, actually, it’s not, which is the problem. Traditionally, there’s slim pickings for new games around this time of year. The busiest times for releasing new titles (especially big titles) is normally around Christmas and often over Easter too, but the July-October period is like release death in the UK. Except this year. As well having Bioshock released this week already, there’s fahsands more out between now and the end of November. Before the …

Viva Pinata: Giving children nightmares

If you’ve been reading my gaming diary, you’ll know I got a copy of Viva Pinata for the Xbox 360 this week. It’s the same sort of game as Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon, and is written by Rare. It’s also very cute. There’s a TV cartoon series to match too, so it’s clearly mainly aimed at kids. Which is why I bought it, obviously, since I am a child. Or not. Anyway. It’s very child-friendly for the most part. …

Viva Pinata (360)

It’s an explosion of cute, right in your eyes! Despite the fact that Rare haven’t made a decent game in about 10 years, I went ahead and bought Viva Pinata anyway. Mainly for my wife, but also because it’s a bit Animal Crossing-y and Harvest Moon-y and I liked both of them. And it’s great. And cute. I put about two hours into it so far. I started off with a ruined, untidy garden, and some woman called Leafos gave …
